VoiceWaves is seeking undergraduate journalism, broadcast or media students interested in building a multimedia community news experience. We’re looking for a deadline-driven reporter in a unique community newsroom utilizing modern media trends and exploring new dissemination avenues.
VoiceWaves is a project of New America Media, with the support of The California Endowment and the Knight Foundation and in partnership with Building Healthy Communities to help cover underserved areas in Long Beach, namely Central and West Long Beach.
Interns will produce content for our website and our upcoming public access television show, NewsLongBeach. They will gain valuable experience in developing in-depth analysis for a multimedia hyper-local newstalk magazine. Interested interns will also gain experience in television studio production.
Video editing skills, social media familiarity, Final Cut 10 proficiency, and HTML/CSS knowledge is not necessary, but a plus.
Strong written and verbal communication skills required and you must live, work or go to school in Long Beach to be accepted as an intern.
Deadline for applying is fluid as internship positions are available during the spring, fall and summer. A $400 stipend is given to those who finish the internship.
In addition, upon completion of a successful for-credit internship, interested candidates may be considered for a part-time paid intern position.
Those hired as interns will be required to attend editorial meetings every Monday 5-7 P.M. Our newsroom is located on the second floor of 741 Atlantic Ave., between 7th and 8th Streets.
Candidates should submit a cover letter, resume and clips/links (if applicable) to: Michelle Zenarosa, Project Content Coordinator and Executive Editor
