The New America Foundation is seeking an enthusiastic, motivated, and resourceful individual for a part-time, unpaid internship. This intern would work closely with senior fellow Nicholas Schmidle, a staff writer with The New Yorker, to research, report, and develop projects. A background in journalism and law would be ideal, though not necessary. This is, however, a research and reporting position. Hours are flexible and open to negotiation - five to ten hours a week, on average.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Mr. Schmidle with searching archives, such as Lexis-Nexis and Pacer.
  • Assist in transcribing interviews.
  • Assist, on occasion, with administrative tasks upon request.

Qualifications

Ideal candidates will possess:

  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage time.
  • Background and interest in journalism.
  • Flexibility and enthusiasm.
  • Familiarity with Lexis and Pacer are sought.

Application Process

Email a resume, cover letter, transcript (unofficial is acceptable) and writing sample (no longer than three pages) to: internships@newamerica.net. Please state your name and “Schmidle Intern, Fellows Program” in the e-mail subject line.
