The Peoria (IL) Journal Star offers three reporting internships during the "spring" (Jan-mid May), "summer" (mid May-late Aug.) and "fall" (Sept.-late Dec.). A single photojournalism internship also is offered each time period. Deadlines to apply generally are two months before the start of the internship period.
Reporting internship candidates should submit a resume, cover letter and at least six clips to Metro/City Editor Mike Cecil. The U.S. Postal Service is preferred, but if time is short, e-mail is acceptable. Our address is 1 News Plaza, Peoria, IL 61643; my e-mail address is email@example.com.
Photo intern candidates should submit their materials and portfolios to Fred Zwicky, assistant photo editor.
Interns earn $405 per week, with nights and weekends required. Interns generally are used as general-assignment reporters (with many A1 and B1 opportunities), but all are trained to cover the police beat. A driver's license is required. Strong candidates should have a demonstrated solid background in news reporting and writing, ability to shoot video and some simple photos, be prepared to post story updates on the Web, and be familiar with Twitter and Facebook.
For questions, contact Mike Cecil at (309) 686-3117.
